What makes us Different...

Often we hear stories of people who have been dissapointed or let down with chiropractic treatment in the past. They tell us of how their past experience may have included a very brief treatment (5-7 minutes) and only involved spinal manipulation (adjustments) or that they didn't feel like the whole problem was addressed, and they didn't really understand what their injury was.

At Active Healthcare Centre we believe in treating the root of the problem, and everything that goes with it. We treat the affected joints in addition to the muscles that surround it. This means that at each and every visit you will receive a combination of treatments including muscle work and stretching, modalities (like ultrasound, interferential current, acupuncture, etc.), spinal manipulation and a custom exercise program designed just for you so your injury does not return. Each visit lasts roughly 30 minutes and we take the time to make sure you are well informed about your condition and what you can do to help your body to heal quicker, as well as what you can do to prevent re-injury.

Our doctors are "evidenced based". Meaning they keep up on the newest research, and use treatment protocols that have been proven in high quality research studies. They are constantly taking continuing education courses so that they may offer you the best treatment possible.

Chiropractors don't raise stroke risk, study says

CAROLINE ALPHONSO
TORONTO — From Saturday's Globe and Mail Last updated on Monday, Mar. 30, 2009 02:47PM EDT

A Canadian study indicates there is no increased risk related to chiropractic treatment in the heated debate about whether neck adjustments can trigger a rare type of stroke.

Researchers say patients are no more likely to suffer a stroke following a visit to a chiropractor than they would after stepping into their family doctor's office.

The findings, published today in the journal Spine, help shed light on earlier studies that had cast a cloud on the chiropractic profession and suggested that their actions resulted in some patients suffering a stroke after treatment.

“We didn't see any increased association between chiropractic care and usual family physician care, and the stroke,” said Frank Silver, one of the researchers and also a professor of medicine at the University of Toronto and director of the University Health Network stroke program.

“The association occurs because patients tend to seek care when they're having neck pain or headache, and sometimes they go to a chiropractor, sometimes they go to a physician. But we didn't see an increased likelihood of them having this type of stroke after seeing a chiropractor.”

Spotlight on Graston Technique

What is Graston Technique? This procedure allows healthcare practitioners to detect and treat areas of "scar tissue" or adhedsions in muscles, tendons and ligaments that can lead to pain and dysfunction.

Historically Graston Technique has resolved 87% or more of all conditions treated. Skilled clinician use stainless steel instruments to comb over and "catch" on fibrotic tissue, which immediately identifies the areas of restriction. Once the tissue has been identified, the instruments are used to break up the scar tissue so it can be absorbed by the body.
The doctors at Active Healthcare Centre are trained in this remarkable technique. Make and appointment or ask us on your next visit to find out if you are a candidate for this ground breaking technique!
